From October 25th to 27th, 2024, the 10th Symposium on Water Disinfection and Disinfection By-Products Control was successfully held at Nanjing University. The symposium was hosted by the School of the Environment at Nanjing University and the State Key Laboratory of Pollution Control and Resource Reuse, and organized by the Working Group of the Symposium on Water Disinfection and Disinfection By-Products Control. Academician Ren Hongqiang of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Dean of the School of the Environment at Nanjing University served as the Chair of the Conference Organizing Committee.

The symposium gathered nearly 200 participants, including experts, scholars, graduate students, and industry representatives to jointly explore the fifty-year development of disinfection by-products, focusing on current needs in water disinfection and future challenges related to water quality and health risks. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the discovery of disinfection by-products, the conference featured four special anniversary presentations: "Development Trends and Research Prospects of Safe Drinking Water Disinfection Technology" (Professor Xu Bin, Tongji University), "50 Years since the discovery of DBPs: What we know and what questions remain" (Academician Susan D. Richardson of the National Academy of Engineering, USA, and Professor at the University of South Carolina), "Review and Prospects of Domestic Research on Disinfection By-Products" (Professor Chu Wenhai, Tongji University), and "Fifty Years of Brilliance and Persistence—Introduction to Chinese Scholars and Directions in the Field of DBPs" (Professor Chen Baiyang, Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen).

Additionally, the conference included six keynote reports: "Prioritization of organic micropollutants in global waters and their contributions to disinfection byproduct formation and toxicity in chlorine disinfection" (Professor Zhang Xiangru, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology), "Discussing the Development and Changes in Disinfection and By-Product Control Requirements Based on the New National Drinking Water Standards" (Researcher Zhang Lan, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention), "Microbial Risk Assessment and Ultraviolet Control Strategies in Intensive Pig Farms" (Professor Qiang Zhimin, Shanghai Jiao Tong University), "Molecular Ecological Mechanisms of Microbial Resistance Changes in Water and Wastewater Treatment" (Professor Zhang Xuxiang, Nanjing University), "Techniques and Methods in Drinking Water Risk Identification and Assessment" (Professor Zhou Qing, Nanjing University), and "Engineering Application of New Technologies in Drinking Water Treatment—Case Study of a Typical Modern Water Plant" (Deputy Chief Engineer Rui Min, Shanghai Municipal Engineering Design Institute).
